Minister of Education and Science Sergei Shkarlet resigns.
This is reported by a number of Ukrainian media, including the UP, citing its own sources.
It is likely that the Minister will file a letter of resignation today, Friday, March 17.
The candidates for the post of minister are Inna Yashchuk and Oksen Lesnoy.
This year, the Ministry of Education and Science was criticized for the decision not to include the history of Ukraine in the list of compulsory subjects at the NMT.
What do you know about Scarlett?
Shkarlet 50 and was the youngest rector of Ukraine when he headed the Chernihiv National Technological University in 2010.
Then he joined the team of newly elected President Viktor Yanukovych.
In the autumn 2010 local elections, Mr. Shkarlet won the elections to the regional council under the flag of the Party of Regions. But officially then it was considered non-partisan.
Information about his party membership at that time is different – he himself insists that he never joined the Party of Regions.
Mr. Shkarlet had good relations with the then Minister of Education Dmitry Tabachnik. This is illustrated by a photograph of the Chernihiv rector being awarded in Tabachnyk’s office against the backdrop of a portrait of Viktor Yanukovych.
In 2010, he boasted of loyalty to Viktor Yanukovych.
I chose political landmarks back in 2004. I supported Viktor Yanukovych in the presidential elections… I fully share the views and principles of the Party of Regions,” he told reporters.
In the same interview, the young rector boasted that he was very fond of Soviet cinema.
“I really like old Soviet films,” he said, adding that one of his favorites is “Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears.”
With the change of president, Scarlet’s political preferences also changed. In 2015, he already ran for the regional council from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc. True, then it did not get enough votes.
At the beginning of June 2020, the scientific community “Errors and falsifications in scientific research” published information about possible plagiarism in the scientific works of the future minister.
The community has released a series of materials with comparative tables of Shkarlet’s work and studies of scientists from previous years, in which entire pages of text are identical.

Scarlett himself in the Rada said that a special independent report on these charges was being prepared. I declare that there is no plagiarism in my works. And there are phrases taken out of context,” Scarlett assured.
