The offensive potential of the Russian army in the Donbass has temporarily dried up.
In recent days, the Russian army and Wagner mercenaries have occupied bridgeheads west of the Bakhmutka River in the center of Bakhmut. Last week the river marked the front line. The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to defend the western part of the city. But more broadly, across the front line, the aggressor country is showing some of the lowest rates of local offensive action seen since at least January 2023. This is stated in the new report of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain for March 17, published on Twitter.
British intelligence notes that the problems in the Russian army may be due to the fact that the invaders have temporarily exhausted the combat capabilities of deployed formations so much that even local offensive operations are now problematic.
London believes that Moscow will try to restore the offensive potential of the forces after the stockpiles of personnel and ammunition are replenished. And commanders will probably be forced to choose between conducting offensive operations and conducting reliable defense of the entire line.
Recall, the American Institute for the Study of War said that the pace of the Russian offensive in Ukraine has slowed down compared to previous weeks. And the forces of the private military company Wagner are experiencing a weakening of their attacking capabilities.
