Zelensky recalled that women with children, pregnant women, and the elderly were hiding from shelling in the drama theater building. The Drama Theater was a civilian facility that was deliberately destroyed by the Russian military.
“The day will come – and we will liberate Mariupol. All of our south. All of our east. Just as we liberate our other cities. The day will come – and a tribunal will be created that restores justice to our people. A tribunal that will punish this aggressor in the same way as the aggressors of the past were punished. The day will come when all the perpetrators of war crimes against Ukrainians will end up in the halls of the International Criminal Court and national courts,” the head of state said.
Recall that on March 16 last year, Russian troops dropped a powerful bomb on the Mariupol Drama Theater, despite the fact that children were written near the building.
Later it became known that 130 people were taken from under the ruins of the Mariupol Drama Theater. It is reported that up to 1300 people may be in the bomb shelter. At least 300 people were killed, authorities said.
