The new voting date is the last day of March. At the same time, the Hungarian authorities admitted for the first time that the reason for the delay in ratification was the freezing of payments from EU funds.
The Hungarian Parliament has called a new deadline for voting for the ratification of the protocols on the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO – the last day of March. On Thursday, March 16, HVG reported.
It was noted that the new date was agreed upon at a meeting of the relevant parliamentary committee. According to an HVG source, György Balla, deputy faction leader of the ruling Fidesz party, explained the reason for the delay as follows: “Brussels lies like a pig.”
The publication notes that Balla is likely referring to Hungary’s long conflict with the European Commission over fixed payments from EU funds. Thus, for the first time, the Hungarian authorities recognized this as the reason for the delay in ratification.
Earlier, Hungary said it supports Sweden’s accession to NATO and that the country’s parliament will ratify the application.
It will be remembered that in early March, Hungary postponed the vote on approving the application of Sweden and Finland to join NATO for the parliamentary session, which will start on March 20.
