The head of the ruling regime in Russia, Vladimir Putin, on Thursday, March 16, for the first time since the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, held a meeting with the largest Russian businessmen. The publication MeduzaGlava, which positions itself as an opposition, reported this on Thursday, March 16.
During the meeting, Putin tried to convince businessmen that it was “better in Russia” and that Europe was “punishing itself” with anti-Russian sanctions.
The Kremlin leader urged those present to invest in new technologies, production facilities and businesses to help Russia overcome “Western attempts to destroy its economy.” He also assured that the Russian Federation supposedly opens up “enormous opportunities for almost any business.”
“Those who stayed here and really worked became smarter, more energetic, better than those who left and give advice to our ill-wishers. I often hear from you that it is more reliable there (in the West – ed. ). And now? We must understand that this is the basis of our existence,” Putin said.
The participants in this meeting were Russian oligarchs and businessmen: Oleg Deripaska, Vladimir Potanin, Alexei Mordashov, German Khan, Viktor Vekselberg, Viktor Rashnikov, Andrey Melnichenko and Dmitry Mazepin.
All the Russians listed above have been sanctioned by the West since February 2022.
Putin also said he had “no other choice” but to “bring his forces into Ukraine.”
The Kremlin leader hopes that Russia faces a “sanctions war”, but it is said to be quick to reorient its economy towards countries that have not imposed restrictions against the occupying state .
As previously reported, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the tenth package of EU sanctions against Russia provides various restrictions against the aggressor country for a total of 10 billion euros.
