The current President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Thursday, March 16, was elected as a candidate for the position of head of state at a meeting of the parliamentary group of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). This is what the chairman of the AKP party group, Ismet Yilmaz, said according to the Turkish TV channel TRT Haber.

“The decision on the candidacy of our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was made unanimously. The decision will be sent to the Supreme Electoral Commission next week,” he informed.

As is known, six opposition parties in Turkey have nominated a candidate for the presidency.
