More and more Europeans consider Russians to be enemies. Two-thirds of respondents in 10 European countries consider Russia an adversary of their countries.
The European Council on Foreign Relations found that the strongest position in relation to Russia as an adversary in Denmark is 82%. This data is published by Politico.
Denmark is followed by Estonia and Poland (79% each), the UK (77%), Germany (69%), Spain (65%), France (59%), Portugal (57%) and Italy (54%). But in Romania, only 44% of respondents consider Russia an enemy.
The report is based on data from YouGov and Datapraxis, which surveyed 14,439 people in these countries in January.
Political scientists Ivan Krastev and Mark Leonard, based on the results of the report, assert the creation of three blocs in Europe, signifying the attitude of Europeans towards Russians.
First group of countries – “northern and eastern hawks.” These are Estonia, Poland, Denmark and Britain. In these countries, most people strongly support Kyiv’s goals in the war.
Second block – “ambiguous West”, consisting of France, Germany, Spain and Portugal. There, thoughts about how the war should end were divided.
Third group – “weak southern links”, which include Italy and Romania. They want the war to end faster, even if it results in territorial losses for Ukraine.
