The Russian military is deciding whether to raise an American drone from under the Black Sea, Dmitry Peskov said.
Russia and the United States have been maintaining military and diplomatic ties since the incident with the American MQ-9 Reaper drone. This is what Kremlin speaker Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing on Thursday, March 16.
Journalists asked him if the “hot line” between Russia and the United States, established during the Cold War, had been activated.
“Communication channels have been activated. You know that there are contacts through the military. And the NGSH (chiefs of the general staff) and the ministers of defense, they talked. There are contacts through diplomatic line,” Peskov replied.
He added that the Russian military is deciding whether to raise an American drone from under the Black Sea.
“This is the prerogative of the military. If they consider it necessary for our interests and for our security to do this in the Black Sea, they will do it. But, again, I do not know exactly about the plans of the military ,” said by Peskov and forwarded this question to the Russian Defense Ministry.
Remember, on March 14, the US military said that a Russian aircraft shot down a US reconnaissance drone over the Black Sea. Russia has denied that its Su-27 fighters were involved in the downing of the MQ-9 Reaper. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the device allegedly “flew with violations” and fell as a result of sharp maneuvering.
Meanwhile, the United States is taking the necessary steps to ensure that the destruction of the drone “does not fall into the wrong hands.” Russia says it will try to retrieve the remains of the MQ-9 Reaper.
