António Guterres called on the DPRK to fully comply with its international obligations under all Security Council resolutions.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres is concerned about rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula. This was said in a briefing in New York on March 15 by its press secretary Stephane Dujarric, the organization’s press service reported.
“The continued activities of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea related to nuclear weapons are contrary to its obligations under relevant Security Council resolutions,” the UN Secretary General’s spokesman insisted.
The Secretary General reiterates his call on the DPRK to fully comply with its international obligations under all relevant Security Council resolutions, Dujarric added.
“Diplomatic engagement remains the only path to sustainable peace and a complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” he said.
It can be recalled that since March 13, the United States and South Korea have been conducting joint command and staff exercises, the main purpose of which is to repel potential aggression from the DPRK.
Against the backdrop of allied maneuvers, Pyongyang conducted several missile launches. In particular, on March 14, North Korea tested two medium-range ballistic missiles, and on March 16, long-range ones.
