Ukrainian citizen Pavel Zaporozhets was accused of “attempting to commit a terrorist act in Kherson during the celebrations dedicated to Victory Day.”
It was noted that this is the first criminal case in Russia under the article on “an act of international terrorism”, which went to trial on the merits in court.
TASS reported that Article 361 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Act of International Terrorism”) was introduced by federal law in July 2016 and carries a penalty of up to life imprisonment.
In particular, according to TASS, this article was used in a criminal case on the death of “ex-head of the DNR” Alexander Zakharchenko in 2018 and on the fact of explosions in Donetsk near the hotel with the OSCE mission in 2019 .
At the beginning of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, several cases were initiated in Russia under this article about Ukrainian citizens, as well as a case on the fact of blowing up the Nord Streams.
Recall that in “LDNR” a captured Ukrainian journalist was sentenced to 13 years.
Earlier it was reported that the Minsk City Court sentenced ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya in absentia to 15 years in prison.
