Defenders of Ukraine from the State Border Service have hung a national white-red-white flag on the border with Russian-controlled Belarus. Now, next to the State Flag of Ukraine, the historical state flag of Belarus flutters, which is also a symbol of the Belarusian volunteer detachment “Pahonia” and the Tactical Group “Belarus”, participating in the war against Russia on the side of Ukraine.
Note that Belarusian border guards controlled by dictator Alexander Lukashenko from time to time complain about Ukrainian colleagues who turn on the Ukrainian anthem at the border or hang out the historical Belarusian flag. In addition, they complain about “threatening gestures” from the Ukrainian side. They were also outraged by Valera’s mannequin hung in the forest at the border in Russian uniform.
Recall that the white-red-white flag is the historical national symbol of Belarus, the official flag of the Belarusian People’s Republic (1918-1919) and the state flag of the Republic of Belarus until 1995. After the referendum initiated and illegally held by Alexander Lukashenko, the use of this flag was actually banned in the country. The flag became official, similar to the flag of the Belarusian SSR, only without the hammer and sickle, and the white-red-white turned into a symbol of protest.
