The radars were bought for 14 million euros, which were collected by citizens, as well as Lithuanian businesses.
Lithuania bought 16 radars for Ukraine using 14 million euros donated by the population and business representatives. This was announced on Tuesday by one of the organizers of the fundraising action, Jonas Ohmanas, in a briefing on Tuesday, March 14.
“It was supposed to buy 14 Israeli-made radars. The cost of one set is 1 million euros. But after consultation with the Ukrainian military, the plan was adjusted according to their wishes,” he said.
According to him, several sets of equipment that were cheaper were chosen.
“Therefore, a total of 16 systems were sold,” said Okhmanas.
Part of the equipment has already been shipped to Lithuania and is on its way.
Recall that a similar fundraising was organized in Lithuania in May 2022 for the acquisition of a combat drone in Turkey for transfer to Ukraine. At that time, approximately six million euros were collected.
The manufacturer of these devices said he would provide them to Lithuania free of charge. The Turkish side also expressed the desire that 4.4 million euros from the agreement intended to pay for the transaction would be directed to provide humanitarian and other aid to Ukraine, and Vilnius would use the rest to arm the device. For him, guided air-to-ground missiles were purchased.
In addition, in early February it became known that Lithuania managed to close the minimum collection plan for air defense radars for Ukraine. Total raised 5.3 million euros
