The Japanese government has provided $1.6 billion in financial and material aid to Kyiv.
By the end of 2022, Japan has provided Ukraine with financial and material aid worth $1.6 billion. This is in reference to the report of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, the Kyodo news agency reported on Tuesday, March 14.
In Japan, the amount of official development assistance increased significantly last year as the government took various measures to help Ukraine, amounting to $1.6 billion.
By the end of 2021, Japan will be the world’s third largest donor in terms of funds allocated for international development after the USA and Germany among all members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Japan’s official aid in 2021, calculated according to the international standards of the matching grants system, increased by 8.4% compared to the previous year and reached about $17.63 billion.
In concessional loans, the amount of allocated development assistance reached $21.95 billion.
One of the main factors that prompted the Japanese authorities to increase the amount of international aid was the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly limited funding sources for developing countries, especially dependent on tourism.
Recall that Ukraine will receive an aid grant from Japan in the amount of $170 million for the implementation of the Rapid Recovery Plan for Ukraine.
Earlier we also wrote that Japan intends to provide $5.5 billion in aid to Ukraine.
