Russia failed to break the “blank wall” of the collective West, and the agreement “cannot stand on one leg,” complained Dmitry Peskov.
The possible extension of the grain deal is a goodwill gesture on Russia’s part. This was done in the hope of fulfilling those agreements related to the Russian Federation. This is what Kremlin speaker Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing on Tuesday, March 14.
He said the grain deal had been extended by 60 days, although neither Ukraine nor the UN confirmed this. Journalists asked him why there was no talk of 120 days, as usual.
“Unfortunately, it is not possible to break the blank wall of the Western collective. The conditions that were agreed upon as an important part of the deal have not been met… The deal cannot stand on one leg. Therefore, in general , of course , the conditions for an extension are relative. But this is, of course, a kind of goodwill gesture on the part of the Russian Federation in the hope that, after a long time, the conditions and obligations assumed by well-known parties will be fulfilled,” said Peskov.
He was then asked if the fact that the Russian Federation has agreed to extend the grain deal means that Moscow is confident that the provisions on the Russian side will be fulfilled.
“Contacts continue on this matter. Everyone agrees that the second part should be completed, and we still hope, within the framework of the goodwill shown by the Russian side, that this second part will nevertheless be enforceable,” Peskov summed up.
Earlier, the media reported that negotiations on a grain deal were still ongoing with “all parties”, but personal negotiations with Russia had ended.
As you know, the grain agreement ended in July 2022 and was extended for 120 days in November. His term ends this week – March 18. Ukraine is in favor of extending the deal for a year at the same time and proposes to expand its operation in the port of Nikolaev.
