More than 100 dead in African storm

According to the World Meteorological Organization, this typhoon is one of the strongest recorded in the southern hemisphere.

Tropical Storm Freddy, which hit South Africa, Mozambique and Malawi, killed more than a hundred people and caused extensive damage. On Monday, March 13, according to Reuters.

The element hit the central part of Mozambique state on Saturday, ripping roofs off houses and causing flooding, and then moved inland towards Malawi, drenching the region with heavy rains.

In some Mozambican communities, electricity and communication were lost. Because of this, there is no exact data on the extent of the damage and the number of victims in the country.

At least 99 people have died in Malawi due to bad weather. This is what the Commissioner of the Department for the Elimination of the Consequences of Natural Disasters, Charles Kalemba, said.

According to the World Meteorological Organization, Cyclone Freddy is considered one of the strongest recorded in the Southern Hemisphere.

Scientists point out that tropical storms are intensifying amid climate change as greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere and the oceans warm. As warm ocean water evaporates, heat energy is transferred to the atmosphere, causing more intense storms and hurricanes.

It will be remembered that last fall in the Philippines due to the typhoon killed approximately 100 people.

Recall that in late December, a snowstorm in the United States led to the death of people in 12 states.
