One of the senators proposed the introduction of special control over funds allocated for Ukraine.
U.S. Republican Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky has single-handedly blocked a bill to give Ukraine a record nearly $ 40 billion in aid. He said this in a speech in the U.S. Senate on Thursday, May 12, aired by local TV channels.
“I swear by the U.S. Constitution, not abroad. And no matter how good the reasons, the purpose of my office is U.S. national security. We cannot save Ukraine while destroying the U.S. economy.
You can’t throw away all $ 40 billion without any oversight. When we had a special inspector general that we assigned for Afghanistan, it didn’t stop all the waste, but at least it made the thieves think before stealing money, ”the legislator said.
Paul proposed the introduction of special monetary controls to prevent embezzlement and fraud by passing an amendment to appoint a special inspector general to oversee the expenditure of funds allocated to Ukraine.
At the same time, the politician expressed “sympathy” for our state.
“I sympathize with Ukraine, I wish them luck and I want them to defeat the Russians, squeeze them out of their country. But we also have to worry about our country and the ambiguous inflation here, it will only worsen the situation. , ”Paul told The Mark Reardon. show.
Thus, the issue of voting in the Senate on the allocation of additional assistance to Ukraine will be delayed until next week.
Recall, on May 10, the House of Representatives of the US Congress approved the provision of an additional aid package to Ukraine for a record amount of $ 39.8 billion. This package includes military, economic and humanitarian support for Ukraine, which is resisting Russian aggression.
