Ongoing tests confirm the reliability of nuclear war deterrents, Pyongyang said.
North Korea launched two strategic cruise missiles from a submarine in the Sea of Japan. This was reported on March 13 by the Yonhap agency.
It was noted that the launch took place on Sunday morning in the waters of Gyeongpo Bay.
The DPRK said the exercises were successful and “confirmed the reliability of the weapon system.” During the tests, offensive operations of submarine units, which make up one of Pyongyang’s main nuclear deterrence forces, were studied.
The missiles were said to have “accurately hit their intended targets” in the East Sea.
South Korea’s military earlier reported that it had spotted an unidentified missile fired from a submarine off the coast of North Korea.
It will be recalled that the last launch took place on the eve of the main exercises of the United States and South Korea Freedom Shield. Pyongyang condemned them and called them “preparations for an aggressive war.”
