Alain Berset recalled the neutrality of Switzerland and said that Swiss weapons should not be used in wars.

Swiss President Alain Berset said that Swiss weapons should not be used in the war in Ukraine. He said this in an interview with NZZ am Sonntag, published on Sunday, March 12.

Berset noted that Switzerland’s policy is based on “commitment to peace, humanitarian law and mediation whenever possible.” According to him, such a position “may seem outdated to some, but it is more important than ever.”

“It is extremely dangerous to throw these fundamental principles overboard now. As far as Switzerland is concerned, war is no part of [нашей] DNA. The government’s position is clear. This is also in line with my personal position. Swiss weapons should not be used in wars,” said Berset.

Remember, the Council of Cantons – the upper house of the Swiss Parliament, after many hours of debate, rejected the petition, which provided for the provision of Swiss-made weapons to Ukraine.

Also on March 12, it became known that Switzerland was dumping missiles that Ukraine would need.
