A pro-Russian politician, leader of the Koos movement, Aivo Peterson, who supports Russia in its war of occupation and visited Ukrainian territories occupied by the Russian Federation, was detained in Estonia. On Friday, March 10, ERR was reported.
Along with Peterson, two other people were detained – an Estonian citizen and a Russian with a residence permit in the country. Their names have not been released.
According to the press service of the Estonian Security Police (KAPO), they were detained by the security police on suspicion of being related to the Republic of Estonia.
“This is a preliminary suspicion, which may change or be clarified during the procedure,” the statement said.
The Koos Movement, also known as the “Public Movement for Peace and Sustainable Development of Estonia”, officially emerged after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in March 2022.
It is led by chiropractor Aivo Peterson (born Krylov) and crypto businessman Oleg Ivanov.
Peterson ran several times for the city council of the third-largest and almost entirely Russian-speaking city of Narva, but was never elected.
