Norway announced that it will transfer two platoons of NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine. Usually, one platoon includes 3-4 launchers.
Norway is transferring new air defense systems to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in cooperation with the United States, Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gramm said on March 10. He arrived in Kyiv on a visit.
Ukraine is in dire need of protection from missile attacks, Norway will help in this, Gram said.
We are talking about two fully equipped platoons of the NASAMS air defense system.
NASAMS is a Norwegian-American anti-aircraft missile system of small and medium (30-50 km, depending on the type of missile) range.
According to information in open sources, the platoon has 3-4 launchers, each of which carries six AMRAAM missiles, a radar station, a fire control center and a piece of equipment with an electro-optical camera.
NASAMS air defense systems went on alert at the end of 2022. “Rakurs” wrote that Ukrainian air defense specialists “perfectly” mastered the NASAMS air defense system, which on the night of January 1 skillfully destroyed the shaheeds.
Air Force Speaker Yuri Ignat then stated that “our military barely had time to reload NASAMS. How they beat them from artillery.
Apparently, no one has such experience in using this air defense system: during the battle, reload the complex and destroy air targets, Ignat said.
