The psychologist from Rio Julia Rangel he grew up in Leblon, from where he could see, through the window of his house, the communities of Pavão, Pavãozinho and Cantagalo, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. It was at Rede Postinho, (OSC that promotes preventive health to women, through interdisciplinary care and guidance), that she found the opportunity to do volunteer work.

With the aim of stimulating and broadly covering the culture of volunteering, the NGO Parceiros Voluntários launches the documentary “Só Juntos – Dá pra change. It’s just getting started”, premiered for guests on International Women’s Day – March 8 – in the auditorium of the TozziniFreire office, in São Paulo, and then will follow a schedule of screenings in the communities portrayed by the film and also in Porto Alegre. Although Brazil has an active and robust volunteering culture (according to a 2021 Datafolha survey, the country has 57 million volunteers), the potential impact of volunteering extends beyond the work itself. Education and awareness of society are essential to support practical voluntary actions, towards long-lasting and sustainable projects.

“Only Together – You can change. Just get started”

The 58-minute documentary produced by Parceiro Voluntários is directed by Juliano Ambrosini and brings the stories of three leaders of Civil Society Organizations based in Rio de Janeiro, community of Pavão, Pavãozinho and Cantagalo; in Osasco, São Paulo; and a community in the neighborhood of Bom Jesus, in Porto Alegre, all revealing in a natural and sensitive way the nuances and impacts of volunteering. The small team of this documentary managed an impeccable production to accompany each of the characters for a week, bringing to the public the stories in diary format with testimonies that move the scope of the transforming actions.

“We worked with an attractive and intimate narrative in order to bring the public closer to our characters. In this sense, we resorted to the techniques of the two great schools of documentary: direct cinema and true cinema”, told Ambrosini.

“Among so many inspiring examples over these 26 years of PV’s activities, the selection process was not easy. Finally, we identified people who represent different profiles and communities.”completed Daniel SantoroChairman of the Board of Directors of Parceiros Voluntários.

For the superintendent of PV, José Alfredo Nahas, “with the documentary we want other people to wake up to a citizen attitude. After all, only together can we build a better world”.
