Signs at Washington’s Trump International Hotel – once called the “crown jewel” of Donald Trump’s real estate – collapsed Wednesday night after new owners took over the property.
CGI Merchant Group, an investment firm that includes former MLB superstar Alex Rodriguez and former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, signed a $ 375 million hotel deal last year.
The deal ended on Wednesday and signs appeared shortly:
The new Hilton hotel is being operated as a Waldorf Astoria property, scheduled to open in the summer, according to a press release from CGI Merchant Group.
Although the building itself is owned by the federal government, Trump won the property by renting it out in 2012 and then opened it as a hotel in 2016. Since winning the presidency, it has become a place for those hoping to gain exposure and good mood. .
But when Trump left town, business disappeared.
“These people no longer have a reason to meet and try to understand what’s going on on earth because the man is gone,” said Kevin Chaff, chief editor of Washington Life. He told the Guardian last year. “So it must be a ghost town.”
Trump’s critics on social media have hailed the lesser -known signs:
The Trump Hotel is no longer in Washington. Good liberation from the shell of corruption.

I wonder if the Trump Hotel DC sale price includes Jumbo Prawns sitting in the restaurant’s freezer. (He always had to have a bigger shrimp in his shrimp cocktail than his hosts, a true story derived from the records of the world’s most fragile ego.) @GOP

No more Trump Hotel in Washington.
There should be a historical indicator of all crimes committed internally. https://t.co/jltRNzqC7f

Someone wants to say which political ghosts will soon be staying at the former Trump International Hotel DC?

Amen! Until we meet again #Hotel Trump sa #AD! Its marks have been removed! Now I’m happy to go inside! I’ve loved the old post hall since I was a kid, but once it landed in Trump’s hands I didn’t interfere because I wouldn’t give him a fuss with my $$. https://t.co/vCEMhAaIYh
