Protests in Georgia over the adoption in the first reading of a dubious bill and general pro-Russian narratives of the current government continue. Protesters in Tbilisi burned the Russian flag and demanded the resignation of the government and holding early elections.
Some opposition politicians in Georgia say that they will not disperse and the protests will not stop until they are convinced that the path and course to Europe is unbreakable. Interpressnews reports that on March 10, a new rally will be held in front of the Georgian parliament building. The corresponding statement was made by one of the leaders of the rally, Nodar Chachanidze, after it became known that a plenary session was scheduled for March 10 in the parliament. There will be only one item on the agenda, namely, the so-called second hearing of the “foreign agents” project will be put to the vote.
Recall that after two nights of protests and the violent dispersal of demonstrators near the Georgian parliament, the Tbilisi authorities announced that they were “responding” to the bill on “foreign agents”. A number of experts and specialists noted that it is procedurally impossible to simply “revoke” a draft approved in the first reading, only because of deviations during the voting in the second reading. After that, the party in power promised that the corresponding procedure would be carried out in parliament.
