The president MexicoAndres Manuel Lopez ObradorAMLO), has confirmed that it will not allow foreign military forces to invade its territory in response to US lawmakers’ proposals to use the military to fight drug traffickers, a proposal it called “treacherous.”
“We will not allow any foreign government to interfere, much less the armed forces of a foreign government to invade our territory,” Lopez Obrador said at his usual morning press conference.
Republican congressmen introduced a bill on Wednesday that would designate fentanyl cartels as “terrorist” groups, and several senators have been urging the administration for days to allow the US military to fight them wherever they are.
One of the initiatives presented by the senators Roger Marshall And Rick Scott In response to the deaths of two abducted Americans in the border town of Matamoros, he specifically targets Mexican cartels in the Persian Gulf, Jalisco Nueva Generation, Sinaloa, and the Northeast.
AMLO considered “irresponsible” the proposal of the Republican congressmen. “This is an insult to the people of Mexico, disrespect for our independence, our sovereignty,” he said.
“This is an arrogant, treacherous, stupid, interventionist position,” the president added.
Worry
The Pentagon itself warned on Wednesday that the force project could have “repercussions” on cooperation with Mexico, which has already expressed concerns about its sovereignty, said Undersecretary of Defense for National Defense and Hemispheric Affairs Melissa G. Dalton.
The President of Mexico has announced that his government will launch an information campaign aimed at Mexicans and other Hispanics living in the United States to inform them of his administration’s actions against organized crime.
“And if [los republicanos] don’t change their attitude and think they’re going to use Mexico For propaganda, pre-election and political purposes, we will urge not to vote for this party, because it is interventionist, inhuman, hypocritical and corrupt,” added López Obrador.
He clarified that he had not yet discussed this issue with his American counterpart. Joe Biden and that he would wait for the reaction of other Republican congressmen to the proposal, which he called “an invasion.”
“This is not the government of President Biden, this is the Republicans,” he stressed.
AMLO He said that he also did not rule out the possibility of “demanding temporary sanctions” before the UN. (AFP)
