Warner to invest in new productions of ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’

The ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ franchises have gained new perspectives through Warner Bros. Discovery, Gunnar Wiedenfels

After the successful launch of ‘Hogwarts Legacy’, a game derived from ‘Harry Potter’, released 12 years after the release of the last film in the saga of the most famous wizard on the big screen, the financial director of Warner Bros. discovery, Gunnar Wiedenfelsrevealed that “there are a lot of opportunities” for the franchise adapted from the books, and that the company is “just starting to expand them”.

The revelation was made last Wednesday, the 8th, during a panel at the Morgan Stanley investor conference (via Variety), where Wiedenfels highlighted that the executive changes carried out in recent months are what will make the new productions possible.

We have the new ‘Harry Potter’ tour coming to Tokyo in the middle of the year. Long story short, I think this single company approach, great leadership in the individual business units and the coordinated management of franchises is probably one of the biggest opportunities the company has.”

In addition to ‘Harry Potter’, the executive also mentioned ‘The Lord of the Rings’, revealing that fans will have to wait a little longer for the release of new films:

“David made a promise, quote, very early on to revitalize some of the iconic sustaining intellectual properties and we are starting to make progress,” he said. “It’s exciting to see how people are coming in and out and how the creative community is embracing this opportunity to work with us. This will bear fruit, in time.”

Remember that Warner Bros. Discovery and New Line announced in February the development of two new films in the universe adapted from the works of JR Tolkienthe first being an animation about the War of Rohirrim that should premiere on April 2, 2024.
