In addition to 14 Polish Leopard tanks, the battalion will also have four tanks from Canada, eight from Norway, and six from Spain.
The Ukrainian military has completed training Leopard 2 tanks in Poland. After that, Ukraine received another 10 combat vehicles promised by Warsaw. This is what the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Defense of Poland Mariusz Blaszczak said at the briefing on Thursday, March 9th.
“We support Ukraine within the framework of the international coalition. In addition to 14 Polish Leopard tanks, this battalion will also include four tanks from Canada, eight tanks from Norway, and six from Spain, ” said the minister.
Blashak added that he was in talks with his Spanish counterpart Margarita Robles about the possible provision of more tanks to Ukraine – “maybe four more.”
“Therefore, we are certainly dealing with a battalion of heavy tanks, which, in the case of the Polish side, has already been transferred, and in the case of our allies, they will be transferred to Ukraine in a short time,” he. stressed.
The Polish minister also recalled the idea of creating a Leopard 2 tank maintenance center in Poland, which is currently being discussed in Germany.
“The problem is to provide spare parts for these tanks. 20 years ago, the production of these parts stopped, but we are ready to continue this production. Of course, in cooperation with the Germans, we are in dialogue about Leopard tanks that will be delivered or delivered to Ukraine, are serviced and repaired in Poland,” explained Blashchak.
It will be remembered that Poland was the first to supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. The Ukrainian Armed Forces received four tanks on the anniversary of a full-scale war with Russia.
Countries participating in the coalition on Leopard tanks for Ukraine are also named.
