Latvia handed over to Ukraine the first eight cars confiscated from drunk drivers.
The relevant decision was made yesterday, March 7, by the country’s parliament, Delfi reports.
Cars will be transferred:
- army units of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine;
- Vinnitsa Regional Clinical Hospital;
- territorial medical association of the Kupyansky Council.
The transfer of confiscated cars to Ukraine became possible due to changes in legislation recently adopted by the Latvian Parliament. The Minister of Finance of Latvia, Arvil Aseradens, stressed that a little more than a month had passed from the idea to implementation.
The State Revenue Service, the government, the Seimas Commission on Defense, Internal Affairs and the Fight against Corruption actively joined the process, and the deputies unanimously supported the amendments to the law on supporting the civilian population of Ukraine, the newspaper notes.
