The talks between the President of Ukraine and the UN Secretary General focused on security issues, as well as the implementation of the Ukrainian formula for peace.
Ukraine is at the forefront of a real war for the principles on which international law is based. And it is here and now that the future of the United Nations is decided. This was announced on Wednesday, March 8, by President Volodymyr Zelensky at a joint briefing with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in Kyiv.
“Today and Ukraine defends the goals and principles of the UN Charter. And now and in Ukraine the future of the UN and its international role is being decided,” Zelensky stressed.
The President personally thanked Guterres, his team and everyone at the UN who understands the need to protect human values and the international order. Zelensky mentioned the recent approval by a large number of member states of the UN General Assembly on the Resolution Principles of the UN Charter that underpins a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.
“I am grateful to António Guterres for his clear condemnation of the Russian aggression as a grave violation of the UN Charter. Today I express the hope that the personal leadership of Mr. Secretary General will help to implement our resolution – like an order from the UN General Assembly actually exists,” the president said.
Zelensky added that the negotiations with Guterres focused on security issues, as well as the implementation of the peace formula in Ukraine.
“We discussed our peace initiatives, including the peace formula. I outlined our position and further steps towards its implementation, in particular, the holding of the Global Peace Formula Summit,” said the head of state.
It was previously reported that António Guterres named the ultimate goal of the UN in the context of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine.
