Kyiv expects that the supply of anti-aircraft self-propelled guns will come directly from the German government.
The process of transferring arms promised by Germany to Ukraine was delayed due to disputes between the governments of the countries. On Wednesday, May 11, according to Welt.
The publication clarified that we are talking about Gepard’s self-propelled anti-aircraft gun.
According to the publication, German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht did not explain to the Ukrainian authorities that our country needs to order Gepard from the weapons company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) alone. The Ukrainian government was told that the German government would directly provide the self-propelled anti-aircraft gun.
A day after the announcement of the transfer of heavy weapons to Ukraine, the minister said it was a “contract between Ukraine and the company,” and the federal government was only giving permission for it.
KMW also explained to reporters that this process has not yet begun, as the company is waiting for confirmation of deliveries from the German government.
It will be recalled that Germany confirmed its intention to provide Ukraine with self-propelled howitzers.
Earlier it was reported that the German government decided to provide Ukraine with seven Panzerhaubitzen 2000 howitzers from the Bundeswehr reserves.
