The issue of possible release of chemical materials during military operations in Ukraine is being discussed at the highest level.
The United Nations is training Ukrainian doctors in case Russian troops use chemical or biological weapons on the territory of our country. This was announced on Wednesday, May 11, on his Telegram channel by the head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on National Health, Medical Assistance and Medical Insurance, Mikhail Radutsky.
He said he turned to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet and announced a possible chemical or biological attack by the Russian army.
“The letter informed about the statements of officials and international organizations with the threat of Russia using chemical or biological agents against Ukrainians. He called for the use of all possible measures of international influence to prevent the use of illicit weapons in Ukraine, “the deputy wrote.
The deputy noted that according to the UN, there were no confirmed signs of use of biological and toxin weapons by the parties during the conduct of the fighting.
“At the same time, the UN provides assistance to Ukraine, which will be needed in the event of the use of illicit weapons,” the parliamentarian stressed.
In particular, the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute and the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs have planned online exercises for May aimed at strengthening the preparedness of Ukrainian municipal authorities for possible chemical incidents.
Also, the World Health Organization, together with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, delivers personal protective equipment to hospitals, trained 1.5 thousand doctors, and practical thematic training is planned for the staff of specialized hospital.
In addition, the UN Environment Program has introduced mapping and aggregation of environmental damage caused by the invasion of Ukraine, which also covers pollution due to the release of chemical materials. The UN plans to further assist in resolving environmental issues.
“The UN will appoint an official to coordinate the coordinated response of UN agencies, funds and programs to possible threats to the use of chemical and biological agents during the war in Ukraine,” Radutsky added.
Earlier it was reported that Russian aggressors could organize sabotage at the facilities of the chemical industry in Ukraine.
