Rescuers continue to clear rubble in Turkey’s worst-hit provinces.
The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Turkey has exceeded 46,000. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced this on March 6, Gazeteduvar reports.
According to him, until now the number of victims has reached 46,104.
In the eleven provinces affected by the earthquake, 230,000 buildings were destroyed or severely damaged. Residents of the remaining houses will not be able to return to their homes due to the continued shaking.
“We have started to create container cities. If necessary, we will further increase their number to 100,000 within two months,” Erdogan said.
Authorities intend to relocate half a million earthquake survivors to areas where they can live safely.
As reported, a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.8 occurred on February 6 in southeastern Turkey. The construction of 855 residential buildings for earthquake victims in the country has begun.
