The Russian command deliberately sends soldiers to their death near Maryinka in order to reveal the firing positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to The New York Times, the assault on Ukrainian positions comes in waves. The task of the units sent in the first wave is to identify the firing positions of the Ukrainian army. After that, artillery or mortar shelling is carried out on these positions.
Most of the participants in such advanced units die, the newspaper writes. The Ukrainian military defending Maryinka is calling the forward units of the Russians meat.
The NY Times notes that a similar tactic is used during the assault on Bakhmut by the Wagner PPK. At the same time, not mercenaries are fighting near Marinka, but regular units of the Russian army, including those consisting of mobilized ones.
Earlier, the Russian military published a photo of the “apocalypse” – the occupied Maryinka, Donetsk region, which was completely destroyed during the war.
Maryinka is a former regional center. As of 2015, about 10 thousand people lived there.
