The Commander of the Land Forces, Colonel-General Alexander Syrsky, yesterday, March 5, once again visited the units defending Bakhmut and on the outskirts of the city.
According to him, the battles for Bakhmut have reached the highest level of tension.
The enemy threw additional Wagner forces into the battle. Our soldiers courageously defend their positions in the north of Bakhmut, trying to prevent the city from being cordoned off,” the press service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine quotes Syrsky.
The commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the resistance on this bridgehead has been going on for several months and all this time the enemy’s attempts to capture the city have been shattered by the stability of our soldiers.
Our defenders inflicted significant damage on the enemy, destroyed a large amount of equipment, forced the best Wagner assault units to be thrown into battle and reduced the offensive potential of the enemy,” Syrsky said.
On March 6, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting on the situation in Bakhmut. For eight months now, fierce battles have been fought for this city, which cost both sides heavy losses of personnel and equipment.
The meeting was attended by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny and Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Syrsky. Both spoke out “in favor of continuing the defense operation in Bakhmut and further strengthening Ukrainian positions there,” the President’s Office reported.
Information about the possible withdrawal of the Ukrainian military from Bakhmut in Kyiv was called speculation.
