The US government hopes that after winning the war, Ukraine will restore its position as a major energy exporter.
The US government has asked Congress for an additional $250 million for new transformers and power equipment for Ukraine. This was stated in an interview with the Voice of America by the US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Geoffrey Paytt.
In 2022, the United States provided $53 million in additional aid to equipment for Ukrainian energy networks, he said.
“Today we are buying more equipment for $125 million for emergency energy support. And we just submitted a request to Congress that another $250 million of US government funds be allocated for new transformers of equipment to increase the reliability of the Ukrainian grid, build a system that is less dependent on oil and gas and more focused on renewable energy, wind and solar energy, which Ukraine needs,” said Paytt.
The Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources said he “has every reason to expect” that after winning the war, Ukraine will restore its position as a major energy exporter.
Recall that on March 3, the United States Department of Defense published a list of weapons from a new $400 million military aid package for Ukraine.
