Last year, more than a thousand sexual crimes against minors were recorded in the republic.
Over the past ten years, the number of crimes against the sexual integrity of minors has increased almost 30 times in Belarus. This was announced at a press conference on March 6 by Deputy Interior Minister Gennady Kazakevich, BelTA informs.
“The issue of pedophilia is not only relevant and timely. The negative consequences of this phenomenon pose a threat to the future of the country – our children. If in 2012 we had only 38 crimes, then last year year more than 1,000 were identified. An increase of more than 28 times,” the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized.
According to him, a total of 5,616 crimes of this category have been registered in Belarus since 2012.
“Ten years ago, we faced unprecedented cases of suppression of sexual violence. In other words, the subject was very painful for our society. That is, they did not talk about it,” said Kazakevich.
Law enforcement officials, along with interested government agencies, have prepared an action plan to prevent sexual violence against children. A range of measures are being considered by the government.
It was previously reported that a Moscow court convicted the former director, screenwriter and director Yeralash Ilya Belostotsky up to 14 years in a strict regime colony in the case of pedophilia.
