Russia hopes to buy bulk carriers, tankers, container ships and multi-purpose vessels as part of the program.
Russia wants to buy 85 vessels under the program of state subsidies for 150 billion rubles. It is reported Kommersant citing sources on Monday, March 6.
The media said that we are talking about ships of various types and sizes, both in use and under construction, mainly 60 bulk carriers, including 12 Capesize. Seven to nine container ships and seven multi-purpose ships are applying for subsidies. The program also includes tankers.
Banks will allocate more than 150 billion rubles for these purposes, of which the government will provide subsidies of about 70 billion rubles, including 24 billion rubles over the next two years.
The publication recalled that Moscow is developing a program to support the purchase of ships from 2022. The subsidies should cover the purchase of products from foreign shipyards and fleets on the secondary market.
The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, at the request of the publication, reported that the issue of the number of courts and sources of funding for this program was consolidated with the Ministry of Transportation. However, the Ministry of Transportation did not respond to a media request.
Note that in April 2022, EU countries closed their ports to Russian ships. This measure affected all ships registered under the Russian flag, as well as those that changed their Russian registration after February 24.
In addition, the London Marine Market of Insurers declared all Russian sea waters a “war zone.” Such a decision will significantly complicate the conduct of international trade by the Russian Federation.
