A compensatory mechanism for the payment of reparations, based on an international treaty, is being developed by Ukraine together with partner states.

This mechanism involves, in particular, the confiscation of Russian assets. These funds can be directed to the restoration of Ukraine. The corresponding statement was made on March 4 during the United for Justice conference in Lviv by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmihal. This was reported in his Telegram channel.

The head of the Cabinet noted that the mechanism will contain a number of elements. In particular, this is an international registry of damages and the creation of a compensation commission that will consider applications for damages.

It is also planned to create a compensation fund, from which compensation will come and the development of a mechanism for the implementation of decisions taken by the Compensation Commission.

Recall that on November 14, the UN General Assembly adopted a draft resolution on reparations – the creation of a mechanism for compensating Ukraine for the damage caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine.
