Roberta Metsola met with the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada. Politicians discussed sanctions against Russia, financial support for Ukraine and China’s “peace plan”.
The head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, arrived in Kyiv on Friday evening, March 3, where she met with the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk. Metsola reported it to Twitter.
“It’s good to return to Ukraine. To the brave people who inspired the world. To the heroes who refused to give up. To those who sacrificed everything for our values. To the Europeans, whose home is in our European Union,” the leader said the European Parliament.
Metsola stressed that Ukraine’s future is EU membership.
The head of the European Parliament met with the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk and promised to strengthen cooperation.
In turn, Stefanchuk noted that the European Parliament is undoubtedly leading the support of Ukraine.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada added that during the meeting:
-
Sanctions against the Russian Federation were discussed. All prevention options should be discontinued;
-
Thanked the European Union for financial support, for macro-financial assistance;
-
The subject of China’s proposals for a so-called “peace treaty” was raised.
“I emphasized that there is a peace formula proposed by the President of Ukraine Zelensky. And it is to support this initiative that we call the world,” Stefanchuk summed up.
It can be recalled that in February, Metsola called on EU countries to provide Ukraine with long-range weapons systems and fighter jets as soon as possible.
