The American leader had to choose between two candidates – the head of the headquarters of the Air Force and the commander of the Marine Corps.
US President Joe Biden may soon announce a candidate for the post of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces to replace General Mark Milley, whose term ends this fall. It was reported on Friday, March 3, by The New York Times.
It is known that the list of candidates has been reduced by two names. Biden had to choose between Air Force Chief of Staff General Charles Brown and Marine Corps Commander General David Berger.
Brown is the first African American to reach his current position in the Armed Forces. According to NYT sources, he is the leading contender for the post of chief of the General Staff. Brown served in the Pacific for a long time, which was important because of the escalating confrontation between the United States and China.
Berger was a member of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, known for unsuccessful attempts to reform the service in the US Army.
After the presidential nomination, the candidate must be approved by the Senate of the US Congress.
It will be remembered that on January 17, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, met with US General Mark Milley for the first time. Earlier, the head of the US General Staff visited the Grafenwehr training ground in Germany, where more than 600 Ukrainian servicemen are being trained.
Zaluzhny discussed with Milli the transfer of F-16 to Ukraine
