The head of the EC announced the initiative to provide Ukraine with solar panels during a visit to Kyiv.
“Today I can announce that the first batch of solar panels will soon be delivered to Ukraine. ENEL has donated 5,700 panels to Ukraine,” said the President of the European Commission.
According to von der Leyen, these panels can be placed on 11,000 square meters of public building roofs.
“They will provide electricity to schools, hospitals, fire departments. I am convinced that other companies in Europe, as well as member states, will be inspired by this first step. Therefore, Ukraine can count on clean electricity produced at home,” the EC chief added.
I promised to work with Ukraine on renewable energy sources, important for its energy security.
Today we deliver: a first batch of 5 700 solar panels will be sent to Ukraine soon.
Thank you @KadriSimson for working with the industry on this – I’m sure more donations will come. pic.twitter.com/Q1GBkOiDxo
