The OSCE meeting discussed the recent explosions near the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The last statement says that the situation can only be resolved by the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and equipment from the territory of the station.
Russian troops and military equipment must leave the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, and control of the strategic facility must be returned to Ukraine. This was stated in the statement of the European Union, published on Thursday, March 2, after the OSCE meeting.
“We express our deep concern over the recent explosions near the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and Russia’s continued actions of illegal occupation and control of the facility. The situation can only be resolved by the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and equipment from the plant,” the statement said.
The document also emphasizes that Russia’s irresponsible nuclear rhetoric is absolutely unacceptable.
“We support the efforts of the IAEA aimed at strengthening nuclear security in Ukraine, including through the permanent presence of experts and the cessation of all hostilities on the territory of the ZNPP and its surroundings and nearby infrastructure,” said of the EU.
Recall that at the end of February, the IAEA reported a shelling near the ZNPP. About 20 “detonations” were heard at a nearby station.
It was also reported that the Russian military blocked the rotation of IAEA experts at the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye NPP. The rotation of the expert organizational team was delayed by more than three weeks.
