President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a speech on the evening of Tuesday, May 10, announced the death of Ukraine’s first president, Leonid Kravchuk.
“Today, the first President of Ukraine Leonid Makarovich Kravchuk died. He was not just a politician. And not just a historical figure. He was the one who knew how to find clever words and say them for all Ukrainians to hear. .This is especially important in difficult, crisis moments where the future of the entire country may depend on one person’s wisdom, ”the head of state said.
The Ukrainian leader named some facts from the life of the politician and said that he really wanted peace for Ukraine.
“He survived World War II as a child, he survived the occupation. Leonid Makarovich knew what the value of freedom was. And he wholeheartedly wished peace for Ukraine. I am sure we will realize this. We will achieve our victory and our peace, “Zelensky promised.
As reported, Leonid Kravchuk died on May 10 at the age of 89 after a long illness.
It will be recalled that the first president of Ukraine at the end of June 2021 underwent a complex heart operation. After surgery, he spent more than a month in intensive care with a ventilator. The condition of the former president was assessed as difficult. He couldn’t even breathe alone.
After that, Kravchuk was sent for rehabilitation to Germany.
