Leading industrialized and developing countries (G20) were unable to agree on a joint final declaration at a meeting in India because of the dispute over Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Instead, New Delhi published its own result of the discussions, writes European Truth, citing Tagesschau.
Most of the G20 states strongly condemned the Russian war of aggression and demanded an unconditional withdrawal of troops from the territory of Ukraine. Foreign Ministers of Russia and China, Sergei Lavrov and Qin Gang, disagreed with two relevant points.
Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stressed that his country has made great efforts to find a compromise, but the views of individual countries are “very polarized.” However, he said ministers reached agreement on many issues, including the need for reform, multilateralism, food security, global health and climate change.
Recall, on the eve of the G20 meeting, the EU delegation stated that it would not support the G20 statement in India if it did not contain a condemnation of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
At the same time, New Delhi tried to point out the importance of discussing other topics “related to food, energy and fertilizer security.”
