The pilot of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, participating in combat helicopter sorties at the front, spoke about the challenges of a full-scale war with Russia for aviation.
On March 1, the Directorate of Strategic Communications of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published a video recording of an interview with a helicopter pilot of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Roman for BBC News.
The closer to the target, the lower we fly. Usually it is one or two meters above the ground. This is the demand of this war. Our enemies have air defenses that can detect us. Therefore, the lower you fly, the more chances you have to survive, says Roman.
According to the pilot, he flies on a bird made back in Soviet times.
I am 34 years old and I think this helicopter is the same age. This helicopter was made in Soviet times. Now this is not enough for us to win the war with Soviet weapons. When you fight against a bigger enemy, you cannot rely on quantity, you are superior in quality. Therefore, it’s time to change this (weapon – ed.) for something new, – summed up the defender of Ukraine.
