The French Ministry of Defense said they will not wait for the adoption of the new law on the military budget.
The French Minister of Armed Forces, Sebastien Lecornu, said that Paris this year intends to increase the number of orders for the production of shells and missiles for its weapons, especially for the Caesar self-propelled artillery mounts.
“We will not wait for the adoption of a new law on the military budget to do this. We take into account the experience of the war in Ukraine and will continue to do so,” the BFM TV channel quoted him as saying on Wednesday, March 1 .
The Minister noted that in July 2022, an order was placed for five thousand shells of 155 mm caliber for Caesar self-propelled guns. In March 2023, France will order another 16,000 shells of this caliber from Nexter, a manufacturer of military equipment and weapons. Three global orders with an annual volume of 15,000 rounds will also be placed.
The head of the French Defense Ministry did not specify how many of these ammunitions are intended for Ukraine.
So far, France has delivered 18 Caesar self-propelled guns to Ukraine and plans to deliver 12 more, as well as the Akeron anti-tank missile system and Mistral portable air defense system.
It was previously reported that France and Australia agreed on the production and supply of 155-mm shells to Ukraine to support the war against Russia.
