In Qatar, they are asking to sign a contract for 20 years, which, moreover, will ban the re-export of gas to other European countries.

German authorities have not yet agreed with Qatar to buy gas, as Doha insists on a 20-year contract, while Berlin intends to decarbonize its economy. On Tuesday, May 10, Reuters reported, citing its sources.

It was also noted that Qatar insists on a ban on the re-export of gas abroad to Europe, which is contrary to European Union policy and linking the price of gas to the value of oil. Germany wants to peg the price on Dutch futures (Dutch TTF).

Germany consumes 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas each year. Approximately 55% of this volume is now supplied by Russia, fewer being imported from Norway and the Netherlands. After Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the German government decided to support the construction of two terminals for receiving liquefied gas, and four more floating installations will be leased.

Today it is also reported that Germany is preparing for a sharp halt in gas supplies from Russia.
