Ukraine is united in the EU as before and now protects European values for future generations, the President said.
This year, the time has come to start negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. It was written by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Twitter on Tuesday, February 28th.
“Ukraine has always been Europe, Ukraine will always be Europe. We already guarantee it. A year ago, on the fifth day of a full-scale war, Ukraine applied for EU membership and secured the status of a candidate. This year it is time to decide to start membership negotiations,” Zelensky said.
The head of state emphasized that Ukraine is united in the EU as before.
“This is the Ukraine that unites the EU like never before. The Ukraine that protects European values for future generations. Together in struggle, together in victory. Long live Europe! Long live freedom!”
Earlier, Zelensky said that Ukraine has documented its intention to join the EU. This happened during the Ukraine-EU summit.
And Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that by the end of 2023, Ukraine wants to be ready for negotiations on full membership in the European Union, and by the end of 2024 – for membership in the EU.
