Beijing has refused to give guarantees that it will not detain Russian planes at the request of third countries, complained to the Russian Ministry of Transport.
The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation believes that due to the actions of the Chinese authorities in the aviation industry, transportation between Moscow and Beijing may decrease in 2023 compared to 2019 by 60-70%. This is stated in a letter from the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Transport of Russia Valentin Ivanov in the head Russian supports Alexander Kalinin, according to the Russian propaganda news agency RBC.
The Russian agency claimed that Beijing refused to give guarantees that it would not seize the aircraft at the request of third countries under Western sanctions.
It also notes that China was among the top ten most popular destinations for Russian airlines, even when they opened flights to Europe. However, Western countries have closed their airspace to Russian carriers and now flights to China may also be drastically reduced.
After the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine, the European Union imposed sanctions on the sale and lease of Russian aircraft and spare parts for them. The lessors demanded the return of the planes, but Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing hundreds of planes worth about $10 billion to remain in Russian ownership.
Russian airlines cannot send aircraft on most foreign flights because of the risk of arrest. In 2022, 78 aircraft were arrested abroad under sanctions.
Against the backdrop of this situation, China does not guarantee Russia’s security. Beijing has also refused to allow dual-registration aircraft into its airspace.
The President of the Association of Air Transport Operators (ATEA), Vladimir Tasun, said earlier that because of this, approximately half of the aircraft at the disposal of Russian airlines cannot fly to China. In particular, we are talking about more than 480 aircraft registered in Bermuda and Ireland and not returned to their owners after the imposition of sanctions.
Remember, Lukashenka said that despite the sanctions, Belarus, together with Russia, produces various types of weapons and sells them to 57 countries.
