The actions of Viktor Yanukovych and his accomplices are qualified under the article on appropriation, embezzlement of property or its acquisition by abuse of official position.
A special pre-trial investigation in the case of expropriation of the Sukholuchye land by former President Viktor Yanukovych and his accomplices has been completed. This was announced by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) on Monday, February 27.
“The SAP prosecutor decided to complete the investigation before the trial in the case of seizure of a forest fund land plot on the territory of the Sukholutsk village council in the Kiev region with an area of 17.5 hectares and an estimated value of more than 22 million hryvnias of the former president and three other people,” SAP said.
It is indicated that until now, NABU detectives have been ordered to open the case materials to the defense side for examination.
SAP reminds that in 2007 Yanukovych (the prime minister at the time of the crime) initiated the adoption of a number of decisions that led to the fact that this land was removed from state ownership.
The prosecutor’s office states that in order to implement the criminal procedure, the accomplices of the former president involved their close associates, who applied to the Kyiv Regional State Administration with applications for the allocation of lands up to 1 hectare of them, and following applications for changing the designated purpose of these plots, which in the future allows the land to be freely transferred to a company controlled by the former president.
In 2009-2011, a hotel and restaurant complex was built on this site, which the former president used for personal needs.
The actions of Yanukovych and his accomplices are qualified on the basis of a crime under the article on appropriation, embezzlement or possession by abuse of official position on a particularly large scale or by an organized group (part 5 of article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation into these facts was launched in 2014. Until November 2019, the case was investigated by the Department of Special Investigations of the GPU, after which the case was transferred to SAPO and NABU.
“Given that all the suspects are wanted, a special pre-trial investigation (in absentia) was carried out against them,” the anti-corruption activists added.
Earlier it was reported that the residence of Yanukovych Sukholuchya was transferred to the 7 Days hotel chain. Before the war, there were plans to create guest areas for recreation and family entertainment.
