The United States applauds the efforts of the Ukrainian Crimean Platform to draw the world’s attention to Russia’s continued occupation.
The United States has said it will never recognize Russia’s illegal annexation of Ukrainian Crimea, the US State Department said.
“Nine years ago, Russia invaded Ukraine and seized Crimea in a clear violation of international law, Ukrainian sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The United States applauds the efforts of the Ukrainian Crimean Platform to bring the international attention to Russia’s continued occupation. The United States does not and will never recognize Russia’s alleged annexation of the peninsula. Crimea is Ukraine,” the US State Department said in a statement.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his traditional evening speech, said that by liberating Crimea, Ukraine will end the history of Russia’s attempts to destroy the lives of Ukrainians and all peoples of Europe and Asia, which this country claims to occupy.
“In 2014, Russia’s aggression began precisely with the seizure of Crimea. It is logical that by liberating Crimea we will put an end to the history of any attempt by Russia to destroy the lives of Ukrainians and all citizens of Europe and Asia, the conquest of what the Kremlin once claimed. International law will prevail here, on the lands of Ukraine: in the Donbass, the Sea of Azov, the Kherson region and the Crimea,” the president said.
Zelensky recalled that on February 26, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol.
Earlier, Zelensky said Ukraine would restore peace after it freed Crimea from Russian occupation.
